Walk ins welcome
Audition info: Please prepare 16-32 bars of music in a similar style to the show (upbeat, jazz/MT standard) with an accompaniment track; no accompanist will be provided. You will be able to connect to a speaker at the audition. Please also prepare a short comedic monologue (one minute maximum) of your choosing. While a dance call will not be required, be prepared to answer questions on past experience. A resume is greatly appreciated and can be provided at the audition. If a video submission is needed, please reach out through messenger and we will happily help you.
Character breakdown:
Liz Sandor, Female – 30s A popular columnist (as “Liz Lane”) for Smart Housekeeping magazine, 30s. Fiery, confident, independent, vulnerable behind the bravado. Mezzo with high belt.
Jefferson Jones Male – 20s, A soldier, 20s. Naive, humble Texan. Charming, all-American. Tenor.
Alexander Yardley, Male – 55-65 The publisher of Smart Housekeeping. Gruff, imperious, powerful. Bass-baritone.
Dudley Beecham, Male – 30’s, Liz’s editor, an anxiety-ridden and ambitious company man. Gay but hiding it, as the times demand. Tenor.
Victor Beecham, Male – 30’s-40’s, Dudley’s older brother, a strapping farmer who’s an idealistic and passionate socialist. Honest, hardworking, salt of the earth. Bari-Tenor.
Felix Bassenak, Male – 50’s-60’s, Liz and Dudley’s friend, a restaurateur, a matchmaker, nurturer, avuncular. Eastern European emigré.
Norah O’Connor, Female – 50’s-60’s the housekeeper at Dudley and Victor’s farm. Sweet, scatter-brained, devoted to “her boys.”
Gladys Higgenbottom, Female – 20’s Yardley’s assistant/gal Friday. Sharp-witted problem-solver, lover of detective novels.
Mario De Luca, Male – 30’s Mr. Yardley’s driver. Outgoing, beefy, good-natured and helpful. Dudley’s “buddy” from the office. Tenor.
